cerebral palsy is a condition where a person’s physical capabilities are affected by their poor muscular coordination as a result from damage to certain areas of their brain during fetal development/infancy. although not necessarily always the case, individuals who have cerebral palsy may have some degree of mental retardation as a result of their brain damages.
one of my very first jobs that i had taken on as an eighteen year old was working with adults with mental retardation. initially, it was the lucrative pay that had enticed me (at nearly $13-15/hour when minimum wage was $5.75/hour when you’re eighteen years old? hell yeah i’m going for it!). but within weeks, i had discovered that that wasn’t no ordinary job since i had felt guilty getting paid to hangout and befriend amazing individuals who i still consider as friends.
